LAKE SAINT LOUIS, MO – The SSM Neurosciences Institute welcomes neurologist Roula al-Dahhak, MD to its multidisciplinary team, which treats the full range of conditions affecting the brain and spine. Dr. al-Dahhak is based at the institute’s growing Lake Saint Louis office within the St. Charles Clinic Medical Group, on the campus of SSM St. Joseph Hospital West.
Dr. al-Dahhak is board certified in three areas of neurology: in adult Psychiatry and Neurology; in Clinical Neurophysiology; and in Neuromuscular Disorders. As such, she treats patients with peripheral in addition to central neurological disorders, such as peripheral neuropathies, myopathies, motor neuron disorders, and neuromuscular junction disorders like myasthenia gravis and other myasthenic syndromes.
Dr. al-Dahhak was an assistant professor of neurology and pediatrics at Ohio State University’s College of Medicine and their nationally known children’s hospital. She completed her residency in neurology at Ohio State University and then completed two additional fellowship training programs in both clinical neurophysiology and neuromuscular medicine/EMG at the same institute.
Dr. al-Dahhak’s extensive training provides her with the tools to treat a wide number of neurological conditions. Her passion is EMG (electromyogram) testing and nerve conduction study. She is also skilled in performing muscle biopsies. All of these tools further help in localizing the neurological problem and in developing the optimal plan of care. Dr. al-Dahhak treats patients with headache and movement disorders, and she is board certified in using Botulinum toxin in treating dystonia and certain types of headache.
Dr. al-Dahhak received several awards and honors while at Ohio State University. She has made presentations at several national medical meetings. She has been involved in various research projects for more than 10 years and has been published numerous times in peer-reviewed neurological publications. Dr. al-Dahhak is a member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM), the World Muscle Society (WMS), and the American Medical Association.
