Pre-conception Counseling

SSM Maternity Care and SLUCare physician specialists offer pre-conception counseling to guide couples who are considering a pregnancy. Pre-conception counseling can help identify health and risk potentials before attempting to become pregnant. Couples considering a pregnancy may wish to schedule pre-conception counseling about three to six months prior to attempting conception. Counseling may identify issues that can be rectified before achieving conception, thereby reducing the risk for problems during pregnancy or for the child. The process can identify existing or emerging illnesses or disease, existing risks to the woman who may become pregnant, and potential risks to the fetus should the woman become pregnant.
