Delivering at St. Mary’s means that newborns with special needs receive advanced, intensive care 24/7, by a team of NICU nurses, neonatal nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists and SLUCare neonatologists. Nurses from Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center staff the NICU at St. Mary’s. The team provides respiratory and nutritional support for your baby along with conducting sophisticated diagnostic testing like ultrasonography and echocardiography, if needed. Our “Journey Home” binder explains many of the terms and health issues common in the NICU, and gives you a place to keep track of important milestones. Our family room lets you stay close to your newborn and care for you child, while being supported by our nurses, doctors, social workers and pastoral care staff.
Should your infant require even more intensive care, surgical intervention or very specialized testing, your baby is in good hands. He or she can be safely transferred to the state-of-the-art Dana Brown Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center. The neonatal nurse practitioners, pediatric residents and neonatologists at St. Mary’s are part of the same team as those at Cardinal Glennon, so rest assured that if transfer is necessary, it will go as smoothly as possible.
