Top Robotic Surgical Program

SSM Health Care is raising the standard of care in St. Louis with the launch of the region’s most comprehensive robotic-assisted surgical program. Working with a wide range of expertly trained surgeons, the SSM Robotic Surgery Institute at DePaul Health Center offers the most innovative, minimally-invasive surgical approaches available for complex procedures including:

  • Mitral valve (heart) repair surgery
  • Gynecological surgery, including hysterectomy (benign and malignant)
  • Gynecological cancer treatments, including cervical, endometrial (uterine) and ovarian
  • Prostate surgery, including radical prostatectomy
  • Kidney surgery, including nephrectomy and partial nephrectomy
  • Pyeloplasty, surgical reconstruction of the renal pelvis

The SSM Robotic Surgery Institute is powered by the newest da Vinci Surgical System. The da Vinci robot has four arms, which the surgeon operates while sitting in front of a computer screen, watching a highly magnified 3-D image of the surgical site. The robotic hands exceed the natural range of motion of the human hand, making it possible for our surgeons to perform complex, delicate procedures through small, key-hole sized incisions with unmatched precision.

Patients benefit from less pain, less risk of infection and blood loss, and ultimately a faster recovery. In addition, clinical studies suggest that robotic-assisted surgery may help surgeons provide better clinical outcomes than conventional technologies allow.
