ST. CHARLES, MO – Heart disease is the leading cause of death for American women. There are nearly twice as many women in the United States who die from heart disease and stroke than from all forms of cancer, including breast cancer.
To help educate women about their number one health risk, the SSM Heart Institute is sponsoring the fourth annual “Her Heart: Every Beat Counts” education and screening day. The event takes place from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 5 at The Columns Banquet Center, 711 Veterans Memorial Parkway in St. Charles.
The program is open to the public and features physician speakers, a personal survivor story, “Heart-Smart Stations,” drawings, giveaways and free breakfast and lunch. The day is free of charge, but registration is required, as seating is limited.
This year’s topics and presenters include:
“Crossroads of Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease,” Elie Azrack, MD, cardiologist
“Women and Heart Surgery,” Stephen D’Orazio, MD, cardiovascular surgeon
“Do You Know Your EF? Understanding Your Ejection Fraction,” Dennis Glascock, DO, electrophysiologist
“Her Heart: A Survivor’s Story,” Sheila Stewart, American Heart Association “Go Red” Survivor
Attendees have the opportunity to ask questions following each presentations and scheduled breaks allow time to visit vendor booths. A heart health check for cholesterol and glucose is available from 7-8:30 a.m. to a limited number of participants. The cost of the screening is $5, and appointments should be made when calling to register.
