FENTON, MO – Effective June 1, the newly completed home of the SSM Neurosciences Institute at St. Clare Health Center is open for patients. The nearly 15,000-square-foot space on the second floor of the hospital’s St. Joseph Building brings the combined talents of neurosurgeons, neurologists, neurointerventionists and pain management specialists under one roof.
The multidisciplinary institute provides a comprehensive approach to the full range of conditions affecting the brain and spine, including stroke and aneurysm; back and neck ailments and pain issues; epilepsy and seizure disorders; dizziness; movement disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease; Alzheimer’s disease and dementia; headaches and migraines; multiple sclerosis; head injuries; and tumors.
The new space contains physician offices, 16 exam rooms, two procedure rooms, four recovery bays in the procedure area, one neurodiagnostic lab with electromyography (EMG) and electroencephalography (EEG) capabilities and one of the region’s only autonomic function testing laboratories. This testing helps diagnose problems with the autonomic nervous system, which controls functions such as blood pressure, sweating, digestive tract, airflow in the lungs and blood flow.
In addition, patients can receive a full range of hospital services, including CT or MRI imaging, laboratory screening tests, or rehabilitation and therapy, all in a coordinated patient-centered environment.
The neuro-specialists based at SSM St. Clare collaborate with other neurosurgeons and neurologists across SSM Neurosciences Institute’s five locations, as well as stroke coordinators, emergency physicians, nurse practitioners, radiologists, physiatrists and therapists.
SSM St. Clare invested $2.4 million to complete the Neurosciences Institute, which was built out by Alberici Healthcare Constructors and designed by The Lawrence Group.
Earlier this year, SSM St. Clare invested in a $2.3 million Biplane Angiography Suite offering the most advanced treatment capabilities for stroke, aneurysm and other life-threatening neurovascular conditions. With the aid of this breakthrough technology, leading neurointerventionists now have the ability to retrieve blood clots and halt strokes as they are happening.
A Neuro ICU on the hospital’s fourth floor offers specialized post-operative care and recovery and provides expert care to victims of stroke and other injuries affecting the neurological system.
