ST. LOUIS, MO — The SSM Center for Sleep Disorders welcomes neurologist Raman Malhotra, M.D., who is now accepting new patients at SSM DePaul Health Center. Malhotra specializes in sleep-related breathing disorders and has the necessary expertise and specialized equipment to evaluate and treat patients with more rare or complex neurological sleep disorders. Some of the problems he treats include obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, daytime sleepiness, narcolepsy, nocturnal seizures and periodic leg movement disorder.
Malhotra, a St. Louis native, is board-certified in sleep medicine and neurology. He earned his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. He completed his residency in neurology at the University of Michigan Medical Center in 2004, followed by a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology and sleep medicine in 2005.
In addition to his practice for SSM Center for Sleep Disorders, he is an assistant professor of neurology at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine. Currently, Malhotra serves on the board of directors for the Missouri Sleep Society and was appointed to serve on the Education Committee of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. He is clerkship director for the Sleep Medicine elective at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine and also serves on the Graduate Medical Education Committee and Continuing Medical Education Committee for the medical school.
Malhotra’s research interests include studying how sleep disorders affect the performance of college and professional athletes, and also has a clinical and research interest in improving diagnosis and treatment of sports-related concussions and their effects on sleep. He is actively involved in educating the public and other health care providers about the importance of recognizing and treating sleep disorders in our society.
