ST. CHARLES, MO - SSM St. Joseph Health Center officially unveiled its new cardiac cath lab replacement suite with staff and physicians during a special open house event Thursday.
The new state-of-the-art suite features Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) technology, allowing physicians to see the arteries from the inside out. IVUS uses sound waves to bounce off the arterial walls of the heart, which then is converted into an image that precisely shows plaque build-up or narrowing of the arteries. This technology allows physicians to better determine what treatment patients should receive. SSM St. Joseph Health Center is the only hospital in St. Charles County to offer IVUS.
“The cardiac cath lab at SSM St. Joseph Health Center experiences the most volume of any SSM facility, treating about 800 patients each year,” says Mindy Manley, executive director for surgery and cardiology for the North Operating Group. “The new cath lab suite shows our commitment to providing the best possible care for our patients.”
The addition of the new suite is apart of a large revitalization effort at SSM St. Joseph Health Center, which includes the expansion of the Emergency Department, renovation of the OB and a brand new ICU.
