Hospital’s main lobby and entrance will close from August 1 through November.
RICHMOND HEIGHTS, MO — In addition to new streetscape improvements underway at SSM St. Mary’s Health Center, the 525-bed community hospital is also getting a lobby makeover. The main lobby and front entrance will close August 1 through November to accommodate construction.
The $7.5 million lobby and streetscape renovations will improve patient and visitor convenience and safety. The lobby renovation is being funded by SSM St. Mary’s Health Center Foundation.
In a sign of the times, the original access drive to the main entrance from Clayton Road, which permanently closes August 1, has become a safety hazard as traffic volumes continue to rise. The new traffic circulation routes require patients to access SSM St. Mary’s Health Center’s main and east entrances and parking garages from the Clayton Road and DeMun Avenue intersection, which features a four-way traffic light.
The new streetscape also features an enlarged and covered welcome area for patient and visitor arrival; direct access to parking in the main garage; additional green space and water features.
The lobby renovation adds a café area and a repositioned welcome and information area to improve patient and visitor convenience.
These improvements are in addition to other updates at SSM St. Mary’s Health Center, including the expansion and updating of The Family Birthplace maternity floors, which now feature spa-like, all-private rooms, special barriatric equipment and more conveniences for mother, child and family. The maternity renovation will be complete in spring 2012.
