ST. LOUIS, MO — Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, Kate Frayne, RNC, has joined the SSM Breast Care team to offer her expertise as a breast health specialist at SSM DePaul Health Center. She will give patient education, care coordination, system navigation and community outreach, on a mission to improve the experience for each patient. Frayne is the only person at the hospital to provide this specialized care.
Frayne holds a master’s of science in nursing from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She has many years of experience focused in women’s health with a background in OB-GYN and Labor and Delivery. Since joining the breast imaging staff at SSM DePaul Health Center in May 2010, Frayne has taken on a role of supporting women and their families at a critical time – from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond – and serves as a “gateway” to services provided by each patient’s unique team of physicians and circumstances.
About Breast Health Specialists
A breast health specialist performs many roles including: navigating patients through the diagnostic evaluation, facilitating interaction between patients and their providers, providing logistical support, educating and supporting each patient through the process, and remaining a support system throughout the patient’s cancer treatment and survivorship. The primary goal of a breast health specialist is to support each patient’s decision as being the right one for them; stand as one point-of-contact to the patient, from preprocedure phone assessment, support and assistance during the appointment and procedure, through the triage of any additional services needed, in or beyond SSM Health Care services; and discuss the emotional impact and assess the patient’s need for social support systems/programs.
