RICHMOND HEIGHTS, MO — SSM St. Mary’s Health Center today reopened its facility to treat people who suffer from daytime sleepiness, insomnia, Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), restless legs syndrome and other common sleep disorders. The SSM Center for Sleep Disorders located at 1027 Bellevue Ave., Suite 205, across from St. Mary’s Health Center, was temporarily closed in May 2010 due to construction of the SSM Rehabilitation Hospital located in the same building. That construction is now complete.
Under the direction of Anthony Masi, M.D., a board-certified sleep physician at St. Mary’s Health Center, the center offers diagnosis and management of sleep disorders through clinical and laboratory evaluations of patients. Sleep studies are conducted in comfortable, private bedrooms in a controlled area where brain, heart, muscle and breathing activities are monitored while the patient sleeps.
“Treating sleeping disorders and providing a good night's sleep is our main goal,” said Masi. “To ensure our patients received the most conducive sleep environment for accurate testing, we decided to temporarily close the facility and direct patients to one of our other five locations. We are thrilled to be able to re-open the center and again provide a convenient location to local residents seeking our care.”
To make an appointment call the center at 314-644-0016. More information is available at www.ssmhealth.com/sleep.
About SSM Center for Sleep Disorders at St. Mary’s Health Center
SSM Center for Sleep Disorders at St. Mary’s Health Center is committed to relieving suffering from sleep issues that affect a person’s quality of life. The National Commission on Sleep Disorders Research has found that 40 million Americans are chronically ill with various sleep disorders. Symptoms include snoring, gasping for air, high blood pressure, excessive daytime sleepiness, trouble falling or staying asleep, “creepy-crawly” feeling in the legs when resting, and any unusual activity that disturbs your sleep or your partner’s sleep. If not treated, a sleep disorder can greatly affect your quality of life, mental and physical performance, and lead to a severe health condition like heart attack and stroke. The SSM Center for Sleep Disorders at St. Mary’s Health Center uses state-of-the-art technology for diagnosing and treating sleep disorders, along with a staff dedicated to ensuring each patient has a safe, quiet, and comfortable environment to sleep overnight. The center is also outfitted with specialized equipment for evaluating patients with more complex sleep disorders such as narcolepsy, abnormal motor behaviors during sleep, nocturnal seizures, and periodic leg movement disorder. To administer effective treatment of sleep disorders, clinicians must undergo specialized training in sleep medicine.
