ST. LOUIS, MO - Well-known St. Louis philanthropic leader Dan Buck has been selected to head the fund-raising and foundation arm of SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center. As Executive Director of the Cardinal Glennon Children’s Foundation, Buck will work with the hospital and its Board of Governors to expand the reach of the hospital’s pediatric mission. His work with Cardinal Glennon will begin Nov. 8.

Buck has served since 2003 as Chief Executive Officer of St. Patrick Center, the largest homeless service agency in Missouri. His highly visible work there has resulted in a number of advances, including growth of the St. Patrick Center operating budget from $6.7 million in Fiscal Year 2003 to its current Fiscal Year 2011 budget of $14.2 million. The organization also won a number of national and local awards for innovation in service to St. Louis’ homeless population.

“Dan is someone who has proven himself not only to be a tremendous leader but a man of great faith,” says Cardinal Glennon Board of Governors President Julian Carr. “His business results at St. Patrick Center speak for themselves, and we anticipate even greater things from Dan in his new role.”

Also well known for his nearly two decades of on-air work with KSDK, NewsChannel 5, Buck says visibility will be a priority of his work at Cardinal Glennon.

“Cardinal Glennon has a rich history and a wonderful reputation. My work with the Cardinal Glennon Children’s Foundation will be focused on building highly visible partnerships and collaborations within our community,” Buck says. “This decision has been driven by prayer and a lot of reflection on the purpose that God has for me. I feel so blessed that Christ has given me another great opportunity to serve an extremely strong, Catholic mission. He is going to call us to do some great, innovative things for Glennon kids and families.”

Over the past 12 years, through the work of the Cardinal Glennon Children’s Foundation Board and staff, SSM Health Care – St. Louis has invested more than $148 million in new construction, renovation and equipment. The hospital also recently acquired a 10-acre property adjacent to its campus, nearly doubling the footprint of the campus for future expansion.
