Huey Blake to receive Commerce Bank Community Service Award
WHAT: Huey Blake spent two years of his life at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center, receiving treatment for an aggressive brain tumor when he was just 4 years old. More than three decades later, Blake still spends most of his time at the hospital, but this time around, he spends it as a volunteer with young patients in the Bob Costas Cancer Center.
Blake has racked up more than 4,640 hours volunteering at the hospital—the equivalent of 116 full work weeks. His effort is extraordinary, but if asked, Blake simply shrugs and says, “Someone was here to do it for me.”
Commerce Bank will recognize Blake for his exceptional service by surprising him with the Community Service Award on Dec. 2. The award recognizes individuals who show extraordinary care and compassion while working toward the betterment of their community. Blake will be the 100th recipient of the Commerce Bank Community Service Award, which includes a charitable donation from the Commerce Bancshares Foundation to SSM Cardinal Glennon in Blake’s name.
