Event will be April 21 at The Fox Theatre

ST. LOUIS – Emmy-award-winning comedian Dana Carvey will highlight the 24th Annual Bob Costas Benefit for SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center on April 21 at 8 p.m. at The Fox Theatre.

Dana Carvey, a cast member of “Saturday Night Live” from 1986 to 1992, is an Emmy-award winning comedian, best known for creating some of the show's most memorable characters, including "Church Lady" and "Garth" of “Wayne & Garth” fame. Carvey has received widespread praise for his uncanny and exaggerated comedic impersonations of such political figures as former President George Bush, presidential nominees Bob Dole and H. Ross Perot, as well as entertainers such as George Burns, Johnny Carson, Jimmy Stewart, and Mickey Rooney. Carvey earned six Emmy nominations for his work with “Saturday Night Live,” including winning an Emmy in 1993 for “Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program.”

Carvey's transfer from the small screen to the large screen included roles in the blockbuster “Wayne’s World” and its sequel, both based on the popular sketch. Carvey’s film credits are extensive and varied, from voicing characters on children’s cable cartoons to a funny appearance as a waiter in the iconic “This is Spinal Tap.”

Broadcaster and 22-time Emmy Award winner Bob Costas has hosted the event in honor of SSM Cardinal Glennon for more than two decades. More than $9 million has been raised for the Bob Costas Cancer Center, a day hospital providing life-saving treatment to young patients with cancer and bleeding disorders. The day hospital provides a comfortable setting for children to receive prolonged treatments (such as chemotherapy, transfusions, or other drug treatments) without having to be admitted to the hospital. By expanding the range of treatments that can be given on an outpatient basis, children are able to spend more time at home or school, and thus keep up their normal daily routines and activities.

“I am excited to once again host this worthwhile and fun event in St. Louis,” Costas said. “Dana is a terrific comedic talent, and we will soon announce the musical component which will complete what should be another memorable event to support this world-class pediatric medical center. We are grateful to the performers who donate their time and talent, allowing us to continue to make the evening a tremendous success.”

Tickets may be purchased by calling 314-577-5605. Sponsorship levels which include pre-show dinner options are also available.
