 Gaurov Dayal, MD, Named SSM Health Care’s First Chief Medical Officer

ST. LOUIS – Gaurov Dayal, MD, has been named to the newly created position of Senior Vice President - Physician Innovation and Integration/Chief Medical Officer for SSM Health Care. Headquartered in St. Louis, SSM offers health care services in Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Illinois and Missouri.

Dr. Dayal, 41, will work with physicians to create an integrated health delivery system to better manage the health of defined populations and will develop physician leadership across the SSM system. He will also oversee SSM’s Patient Safety and Quality Center and Clinical Decision Support departments. Both departments provide resources and support to all SSM facilities to assist them in achieving their goals of providing exceptional patient care. His first day will be April 16.

“Dr. Dayal is a highly capable physician executive with broad experience,” said Bill Thompson, President/CEO of SSM Health Care. “SSM Health Care is very fortunate to have a physician with his experience and accomplishments join the system. We are excited to add his unique perspective to our leadership team.”

Dr. Dayal was previously senior vice president and system chief medical officer for Adventist HealthCare, Inc., Rockville, Md., where he oversaw the Adventist Medical Group, an employed physician group practice. Also while at Adventist, he managed a 7,000 member health plan, oversaw operations for clinical service lines, was responsible for the system’s clinical integration strategies, and oversaw the quality, patient safety and medical informatics functions. In addition, he formed and led a hospitalist group and served as a Strategy Consultant at McKinsey and Company, a global strategy consulting firm.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Natural Sciences from Johns Hopkins University and an M.D. from Northwestern University. He completed his pediatric residency at Washington University in St. Louis and also served as a staff physician at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
