Quality Care Leads to Better Outcomes

Our Commitment to Exceptional Care

At SSM Health, we care about you. And when you come into one of our hospitals, clinics, or doctor’s offices, we want you to receive the best care possible. Across our ministries, we are committed to continually improving what we believe are the three elements of exceptional care: high quality outcomes, an excellent patient experience, and a safe environment for our patients and staff. Here, you’ll find information about how we’re meeting these standards of excellence.

How We Rate

SSM Health is committed to providing superior care and service. As your partner in health care, we encourage you to learn as much as possible about your care because we believe informed patients make better decisions and have better health outcomes. That includes making informed decisions about where you receive care.

We measure patient satisfaction through a nationally-standardized satisfaction survey, known as the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS). These surveys ask patients about their experiences with care during recent healthcare encounters and include eight aspects of care deemed most important for patient safety and quality purposes. Additionally, other measures of quality of care are broadly shared and compared including timely and effective care, complications and more.

Knowing How We Do Helps Us Do Better

As an active partner in your health care, you deserve to know whether your health care organization is doing the right things - and doing them well. At SSM Health, we’re working hard each day to honor our commitment to delivering exceptional health care services. We regularly monitor our performance against national and regional standard to identify what we’re doing well, as well as any opportunities for improvement. This quality data helps us ensure safe and effective care for all of our patients. You can see how we rate compared to other health care providers by visiting Hospital Compare.

Accreditations & Designations

Pursuing accreditations, recognitions, and award programs are another way we demonstrate our commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care.

The Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits more than 15,000 health care organizations, including SSM Health.

Magnet organizations are considered “the Gold Standard” of nursing. As an organization, SSM Health strives for Magnet recognition to create a culture that has the best patient outcomes and the best work environment. All of our entities are currently working on attaining their Magnet status.

The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Diabetes Recognition Program (DRP) is a voluntary program designed to recognize clinicians who use evidence-based measures and provide excellent care to their patients with diabetes. Those who achieve DRP Recognition show their peers, patients and others in the diabetes community, that they are part of an elite group that is publicly recognized for their skill in providing the highest-level of diabetes care.

In order to attain this recognition from the NCQA, each physician had to submit records of their patients that demonstrated evidence of HbA1c control, blood pressure control, LDL control, eye examinations, nephropathy assessment, and smoking and tobacco cessation advice or treatment.

“For a person with diabetes, the right clinician can make the difference between living with diabetes as opposed to suffering from diabetes,” said Margaret E. O’Kane, President, National Committee for Quality Assurance. “By earning recognition, these SSM Medical Group physicians have demonstrated that they provide effective, evidence-based care to their patients with diabetes.”

The Patient-Centered Medical Home is a model of care that helps build better relationships between patients and their care teams.
