Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities (IDD) Unit

SSM Health DePaul Hospital - St. Louis has designed a specialty behavioral health program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The 12-bed acute care unit serves adults with mild, moderate and severe intellectual impairments. A structured environment  has been developed with visual and sensory items to help each patient adapt, meet their full potential and begin to heal.

Upon admission, each patient receives a booklet which provides a daily visual schedule, visual unit guidelines and visual programming information. Programming is cognitively-based using a self-regulating system which utilizes colors and other visuals. Therefore, all patients  must be able to participate in programming using  these accommodations.

Each patient’s care is directed by a psychiatrist and each will be assigned a social worker who will provide 1:1 therapy/support and group therapy. They will also have a case manager to help with discharge planning and access to a behavioral analyst (if needed.)

Call our Central Intake professionals 24/7 at 1-800-426-2083 for referral or admission information. Before calling, please review the list of patient information you will be expected to provide.
