Fetal Lung Conditions
If your baby has been diagnosed with a lung abnormality, you can trust our dedicated multidisciplinary team of SLUCare Physician Group providers to closely follow your baby throughout your pregnancy. After your delivery, we will care for your child in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) where they will receive extensive breathing support and other necessary interventions as your child’s lungs continue to heal and develop.
The following are some of the fetal lung conditions we treat:
- Bronchopulmonary Sequestration - A piece of lung tissue develops without being connected to the airways, sometimes inside the lung and sometimes outside of it.
- Congenital Pulmonary Airway Malformation (CPAM) - A cystic mass which forms in the lung tissue of a baby in the womb.
- Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) - A fetal abnormality that occurs very early in pregnancy, in which the baby’s diaphragm does not form properly
- Pleural Effusion - An abnormal accumulation of fluid in the chest cavity.
- Pulmonary Hypoplasia - A condition in which the lungs are abnormally small, and do not have enough tissue and blood flow to allow the baby to breathe on his or her own.
