SSM Health to participate in special pickleball event at Janesville Park

May 08, 2024 07:30 AM - Wisconsin leads the nation in deadly falls among people who are 65 or older.

Falls prevention efforts are underway, as a new Wisconsin initiative – Falls Free® Wisconsin (FFWI) – is seeking to provide additional awareness about the issue.

SSM Health is partnering with FFWI, the Janesville Pickleball Club, and Aging & Disability Resource Center of Rock County on two special falls prevention events this month.

The first event will take place in Janesville at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, May 15, at the Jim Clark Memorial Pickleball Courts in Riverside Park.

Ian Connors, an SSM Health Physical Therapist, will share education about how pickleball can aid in balance and strength. Representatives from the partner agencies will also speak.

Free pickleball lessons will begin at 6 pm with all equipment provided, and SSM Health Falls Prevention kits will be distributed while supplies last.

On May 23, Ian and the event representatives will share additional pickleball and falls prevention education with a Zoom webinar beginning at 10:30 am. Click here to register.

Thank you to Ian and our Community Health teams for supporting these falls prevention initiatives!
