Our patients deserve no less than exceptional care. This is what we believe at SSM Health Care- St. Louis. The FUTURES Nursing Academy for elite graduate nurses builds the foundation of this care. The graduate nurse will experience a rigorous clinical and didactic training period where they are guided through both extensive classroom education and intense clinical training. All the while, the nurses receive one-on-one attention and a curriculum tailored to their individual needs. The ultimate goal is for elite graduates of the FUTURES program to join the staff of SSM Health Care- St. Louis and continue our tradition of providing exceptional care.

A Challenging and Rewarding Curriculum

A comprehensive curriculum and hands-on instruction has been carefully planned to enrich and complement the graduate nurse’s education. Through the guidance of our experienced staff, nurses will undertake the challenge of full-time patient care. The intensive curriculum is designed to enhance each nurse’s confidence and practical skill.

Topics of instruction will prepare the novice nurse to care for patients in the acute medical and telemetry settings. The didactic education will include assessment and intervention. Each course utilizes SSM protocols for managing disease processes while incorporation critical thinking and effective decision-making skills related to clinical judgement. The didactic experience will also allow time for hands-on practice of applicable technology/equipment.

Course topics will address a variety of disease management scenarios including cardiac, renal, neurological and respiratory, while incorporating techniques and tips for prioritization, critical thinking and delegation.

The program supports participants through weekly classes as well as regular opportunities to share experiences.

Requirements for FUTURES Nursing Academy

  • Graduation from a nursing program at an accredited institution.
  • Eligible to sit for board exam within 90 days of graduation date.
  • Flexibility on days, shifts and location.
  • Participation in outside programs or activities while obtaining degree.
  • Driven to achieve results.Demonstrates passion in caring for others.
  • Demonstrates high level of confidence.
  • Active interest in furthering your education and your development.

FUTURES Nursing Academy programs are available at all locations except St. Joseph Health Center- Wentzville.
