Symptoms of influenza:

  • Fever over 100 degrees
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny nose
  • Body aches
  • Headache
  • Chills
  • Stomach ache or vomiting
  • Fatigue

CALL your doctor immediately if you have influenza-like illness symptoms or an underlying medical condition.  Doctors typically will prescribe antiviral treatment over the phone.

GO to the emergency room if you have these symptoms plus shortness of breath.

Do not go to the ER or doctors offices unnecessarily. Children under the age of 18 and pregnant women are considered high-risk and should not visit patients in the hospital. Hospitals are treating all influenza-like illness as potential H1N1 flu and therefore it does not require a lab test.
