Peripheral artery disease (PAD) occurs when arteries in the legs become narrowed or clogged with fatty deposits, or plaque. The buildup of plaque causes the arteries to harden and narrow. This results in abnormal blood flow to the legs, arms, stomach, or kidneys and puts you at higher risk for stroke and heart attack.
SSM vascular surgeons helped pioneer the use of a new minimally invasive laser therapy. This technique has been successful in treating patients with critical limb ischemia (restriction of blood supply) and claudication (pain or tired feeling).
