The Picture Archive and Communication System (PACS) eliminates the film generated by magnetic resonance imaging, X-ray, cardiology procedures and other diagnostic tests. Instead, images are part of patients' electronic health records and are available for display within seconds on high-resolution monitors for physicians and other caregivers to view.
The electronic health record and PACS work in concert to create a completely digital patient information system. GE Medical Systems is the major vendor for PACS, while Epic Systems Corporation is the primary vendor for SSM’s electronic health record.
