Financial and Housing Resources
All patients meet with a Financial Counselor who will discuss the costs associated with your transplant, and the cost of the medications you will require. They will work with you to understand your insurance coverage. It is required that you arrange for payment of the costs that may not be covered by insurance. You may not be able to undergo a transplant if you have not made acceptable financial arrangements for payment when a suitable kidney becomes available.
Housing, Hotels and Other Places to Stay
Patients’ family members who need a place to stay have more than one option. The SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital Auxiliary Hospitality House is located one block north of the hospital and provides a comfortable, affordable and safe place to stay for families of patients who are from out of town. For information about the cost and availability of these rooms, please call 314-268-5350 on weekdays between 7:30 am and 3:30 pm and on weekends between 10 am and 3 pm. You can get lower rates for some local hotels by calling the Patient and Visitor Relations Department at 314-577-8500 from 8 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. After hours, this information is available from the Admitting or Emergency departments.
In addition, Mid-America Transplant Services operates a Family House at the Highlands at Forest Park, offering comfortable, safe and affordable mid to long term single family apartment living for patients and their families who must relocate to St. Louis to receive life-saving pre- and post-transplant care
