Ninety-five percent of moms who have their babies at St. Clare say they would recommend us to a friend!
At St. Clare, we combine a relaxing, family-oriented setting with innovative technology and the highest level of obstetrical care. We’re proud to make being in the hospital feel less like “being in a hospital.”
Comfortable accommodations
You and your loved ones will appreciate our beautiful and roomy all-private suites. All phases of childbirth – labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum procedures – take place in these patient suites, which are designed for your comfort. Each room has a sleeper sofa for your spouse or loved one to spend the night and many hotel-like amenities – refrigerator, in-room safe, flat screen TV and DVD, sound machines and more. Family and friends are always welcome to visit and there are no age restrictions (however, only healthy people should visit newborns).
Excellent obstetrical care
At St. Clare Health Center, obstetricians, anesthesiologists and pediatricians from Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center are available to assist your obstetrician 24 hours a day. We offer state-of-the-art equipment, testing and procedures, such as continuous fetal monitoring, regular and advanced Level II ultrasound, amniocentesis and external cephalic version, a procedure to try to turn the baby if it’s breech. Maternal-fetal specialists from Saint Louis University School of Medicine are available to care for high-risk mothers. They work in partnership with your obstetrician and are available for consultation any time.
For infants who require specialized care, St. Clare offers a Level II Newborn Nursery with around-the-clock neonatologist coverage. This nursery can care for babies born as early as 32 weeks, or who need an IV for antibiotics or fluid. Babies with more serious conditions may be transferred to the Dana Brown Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center.
Childbirth options
We welcome any choice you make, whether you want epidural anesthesia or a low-intervention birth. For low-intervention births, our nurses will support you and offer techniques to help you throughout the birth. Doulas are also welcome.
Before delivery, your nurse will talk with you about your birth plan. We’ll work with your doctor to accommodate your wishes unless it becomes medically necessary to change the plans.
Safety & security
Our Infant Protection System is designed to ensure the safety of your baby. Each infant born at the Family Birthplace wears an electronic tag, which will sound an alarm when placed near an exit. The tags are hypoallergenic, comfortable and tamper-proof.
Breastfeeding support
Board-certified, experienced lactation consultants are here to assist you before and after the birth.
Going home
As you get ready for your trip home, certified car seat technicians will ensure that your baby’s car seat is properly installed.
