Approximately $3.2 million in renovations and upgrades have been added to The Family Birthplace at SSM St. Joseph Health Center!
In addition to offering all private rooms, a new component includes a brand new Obstetrics (OB) and nursery, and converting the current Labor/Delivery/Recovery rooms to Labor/Delivery/Recovery/Postpartum rooms, so patients can be in one room during their entire stay. Several of the current postpartum rooms were converted to strictly medical/surgical beds, allowing for all private rooms in this area of the hospital.
This new OB unit is part of SSM Maternity Care, which brings together the collective resources and talents of six St. Louis-region hospitals and numerous physician specialists to offer comprehensive care to women and their babies, from conception through childhood.

- Lactation consultation room for pre-delivery and post-birth consultation.
- A family nourishment area with complimentary coffee, tea, and slushies for visitors.
- SKYPE capabilities for families with members in the military, with hearing impairments, or who are otherwise out of town. Now everyone may share in the joy of their newest family member’s arrival.
