History
Nancy Sue Claypool was a cancer patient at SSM St. Mary’s Health Center. Throughout her battle with cancer, she and her husband, John Claypool, took advantage of every opportunity to educate themselves about Nancy Sue’s illness and treatment. Before her death, she and her husband talked about the need for a cancer information center where patients could learn more in easy-to-understand terms. After Nancy Sue’s death in 1992, her family donated $50,000 to SSM St. Mary’s to realize her dream. An additional gift from SSM St. Mary’s Health Center Foundation donors and physicians helped complete the center.
The dream grew to become an all-inclusive health library that is available at no charge to patients and their families. Today, the Nancy Sue Claypool Health Information Center offers books, videos, DVDs and magazines on a wide variety of illnesses that affect SSM St. Mary’s Health Center patients.
