Who we are

SSM Health is a Catholic, not-for-profit health system - one of the largest integrated delivery systems in the nation. At SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital - St. Louis, we have a flexible and diverse team of over 300 volunteers who gave over 30,000 hours of their time last year. Two-thirds of our volunteers are students from local high schools and colleges. The minimum age to be a volunteer is 16.

What volunteers do

Volunteers work alongside our physicians, nurses and other employees to provide exceptional service to patients and visitors.

Where volunteer opportunities are

Opportunities are available on our nursing units and in our Emergency Department, Procedure Center, Internal Medicine Clinic, Maternal and Fetal Care Center and more. Check in frequently as new opportunities become available every month.

During your first 40 hours, you will serve as a guest services specialist at one of our hospital entrances. In this role, you will interact with a diverse population of patients, staff and visitors, meeting a large variety of needs. This experience will equip you with the foundational knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to provide exceptional service in other areas of the hospital.

Why you should volunteer

Our mission is: Through our exceptional health care services, we reveal the healing presence of God. We fulfill our mission by making our values central to everything we do: Compassion, Respect, Stewardship, Community and Excellence.
