Q: What exactly is QUEST?
A: QUEST, which stands for QUality, Efficiency, Safety and Transparency, is a voluntary, three-year project designed to improve hospital performance. Participating hospitals learn skills to become industry leaders in quality.
Q: How does a facility win recognition as a High Performing Hospital?
A: Awards are presented to hospitals for achieving improvement in patient quality and safety (in the areas of heart attack, congestive heart failure, pneumonia and reducing surgical complications), reducing mortality rates and reducing costs for patients. Premier uses a stringent benchmarking process, and truly looks for the high performers. Based on the benchmarking, usually only the top 10% of participants receive awards.
Q: What does this recognition mean for SSM Health Care – St. Louis?
A: QUEST is designed to help hospitals achieve new levels of performance. Our participation in this project has allowed us to focus on key measure-based evidence practices and will help us to continue to improve the quality and safety of the care we provide our patients. Our position in the top 10% of benchmarked hospitals should tell our patients that SSM Health Care – St. Louis is ahead of the pack when it comes to delivering the highest quality, most cost-effective and most satisfying hospital experience for every patient.
