    Biography

    Dr. Langheim is a board certified psychiatrist. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and later engaged in functional neuroimaging research and training at the National Institute of Mental Health Clinical Brain Disorders Branch in Bethesda, Maryland. He received his medical degree and his PhD in neuroscience from the University of Minnesota.

    The promotion of mental health and prevention of mental illness is the core objective of Dr. Langheim’s practice. His methods combine lifestyle and behavioral approaches with medication management, informed by neuroscience. He believes in the rational selection of medications, incorporating potentially beneficial side effects, to minimize the number and dosing of medications. He is also an advocate of deprescribing – backing off when doses are too high, or stopping medications that are no longer needed.

    Dr. Langheim is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He was a member of the core faculty that won an American College of Psychiatrists 2015 Award for Creativity in Psychiatric Education.

    In a 2016 survey conducted by Madison Magazine, Dr. Langheim’s peers named him as one of Madison’s Top Doctors for psychiatry.

    In his free time he enjoys fitness, poetry, music and travel.
