Dr. Kurt Merkel, MD, FACS. is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive total joint replacement and musculoskeletal tumor surgery. He received is medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine and was voted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) National medical honor society.
Following graduation from medical school, Dr. Merkel completed his residency training in orthopedic surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. During this time he serves as chief resident, obtained a Masters of Orthopedic Science degree and was awarded the Jogn Charnley Award for outstanding research in Hip Surgery.
Over the last 25 years, Dr. Merkel has performed more than 5,000 minimally invasive joint replacement and musculoskeletal tumor and complex joint revision surgeries. Dr. Merkel continues to focus on custom fit knee replacement and innovative joint reconstruction.
