We are SLU Hospital

As we approach one year to the Sept. 1, 2020, opening of the “Grand New” SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital, there is much to be proud of. We have accomplished so much – investing in our people, our facilities and our community – and we could not have done it without you.

Investing in Our People

  • Immediately added and sustained more than 300 positions providing direct patient care.

  • Added layers of support to nursing units, providing leaders more time to be on the floor and round with staff.leader rounding

  • Increased investment in our support contracts with Universal Protection Services and Sodexo, adding to our dedicated security officers and dietary and environmental services staff.

  • Scheduled regular Town Hall meetings with hospital leadership, ensuring open, two-way communications about upcoming events and other issues that affect our hospital.

  • Increased wages for nurses with eight or fewer credited years of experience.

  • Led initiative in Puerto Rico to hire nurses displaced by Hurricane Maria, with four RNs currently on staff and another 10 scheduled to arrive in 201daisy awards9.

  • Added more shuttles to our employee transportation service to improve parking access.

  • Recognized our outstanding employees through our Daisy Award program for exceptional nurses and expanded our celebration of exceptional performance to include the “Fleur de Lis” Award for our care partners. In addition, SSM Health introduced to SLU Hospital the “Exceptional Service” awards, further recognizing those who go above and beyond.


Investing in Our Community

  • Provided more than 2,500 free health Heart Walkscreenings annually to at-risk individuals through our community clinical outreach team.

  • Partnered with the American Kidney Foundation for “The Big Ask, The Big Give,” raising awareness about living organ donation.

  • Provided free first aid at many public events, including the Historic Shaw Art Fair and the St. Louis Earth Day Festival.

  • Sponsored many public events to raise both awareness and funds for important causes, such as the American Heart Association “Heart Walk” and the Crohn’s and Colitis Walk in Creve Coeur Park.

  • Recognized by the state of Missouri as the only hospital within SSM Health designated a Level 1 Time Critical Diagnosis hospital for heart attack, stroke and trauma treatment.


Investing in Our Facilities

  • Continued development on a new $550-million replacement hospital and outpatient care center for SSM Health SLU Hospital, located adjacent to our current campus.

  • Opened the Center for Radiation Medicine, SLU Hospital's first new construction project in more than 20 years.Center for Radiation Medicine

  • Replaced aging furniture, improved lighting and painted walls throughout thousands of square feet in our facilities, including a renovation of the emergency department waiting room.

  • Made significant improvements to West Pavilion in a lobby refresh, the opening of a remodeled infusion center and pharmacy.

  • Became home to many medical firsts in theFlex Robotic Surgery platform St. Louis region, including the first use of the Magseed device for breast cancer treatment, digital PET/CT for cancer staging and the Flex Robotic Surgery platform for both head & neck and colorectal cancer surgery.

  • Implemented an electronic health records merge with SSM Health to a single instance of EPIC, significantly improving workflows and streamlining functionality with enhancements like chart search.

  • For the first time at SLU Hospital, we introduced valet parking as an option for our patients, alloHappy ED nurseswing them easier access to our doors.
