Specialized Care for Mom and Baby
At SSM Health St. Agnes Hospital, there is no such thing as the best room because each room is state of the art. We’re proud to be serving your needs and helping you during this very special and important time.
On one of the most important days of your life, you will feel comforted by our home-like surroundings and our compassionate, quality staff of professionals.
Your stay begins in one of our spacious Family Birth Suites - a private, home-like setting where women are supported by nurses who specialize in labor and birth.
We offer in-room tubs, birthing balls and hands-on guidance to help you position your body to help ease discomfort. Our style of care means your birth experience can be tailored to include the wishes and traditions that are important to you.
Following the birth of your baby, you'll rest in one of our Family Care Suites. Our quiet, spa-like rooms accommodate both mom and her partner, and include a queen bed, in-room baby bathing area and massaging shower. We encourage parents to room-in with their baby 24/7 and provide breastfeeding support. Nurses who specialize in caring for moms and their newborns monitor recovery and support families through those important first few days together.
Our care approach allows your birthing experience to be tailored to your exact wishes and traditions. We offer many low-intervention options to support you during your labor, so speak with your labor and delivery nurse about your birthing preferences, including:
- Room environment
- Mobility
- Visitors
- Hydration
- Aromatherapy
- Monitoring
- Pain relief options
- Cesarean section
- Cord cutting
- Feeding baby
- Skin-to-skin contact
- Circumcision
For low-risk patients, a laboring mom is not always confined to the bed. When appropriate, mom can wear a wireless fetal monitor or an intermittent monitor so she can walk around, try standing positions or even labor in a special laboring tub, or the shower or jetted tub in her room. This option supports movement during labor, which can increase comfort and speed progress.
Our special care nursery is designed to keep the family together with four private rooms. These rooms provide the space for you to remain with your newborn during your baby’s special care stay. This setting provides infants with the best possible care and families with a comfortable, supportive environment.
Our team understands that having your baby in the special care nursery can be stressful. We’re here to support families during this time. Parents are our partners and are included in an infant’s daily plan of care.
In our special care nursery, babies receive extra support and monitoring from a team of specially-trained providers. The special care nursery provides care to infants born as early as six weeks before their due date. We also care for newborns that need to stay in the hospital to meet a variety of medical needs even after the mother has been discharged.
Our Women & Infants team includes lactation services. Our certified consultants will see you during your stay in the hospital. Additionally, all of our nurses are to help with breastfeeding.
Lactation services are also available on an outpatient basis by appointment. Our consultants serve as a vital resource to assist during your breastfeeding experience. The Agnesian Health Shoppe is available to help with breast pump selection that fits your particular lifestyle. If you have a breast pump, please bring it with you to the hospital.
Our Women & Infants team is proud to have a donor milk program available through a certified milk bank. If donor milk is indicated for your baby, your provider will discuss the program with you.
SSM Health St. Agnes Hospital is a milk depot location for the Mother's Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes.
