Application Process

The SSM Health Monroe Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program will be accepting applications for our three PGY-1 positions via ERAS (the Electronic Residency Application Service). The program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) for all positions.

The residency program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and certified by the Osteopathic Recognition Committee (ORC). ORC recognition means that we provide excellent OMM training for our residents.

The program begins interviewing in October and finishes at the end of December.

The program has received osteopathic recognition with ACGME with all positions being designated as osteopathic. MD applicants from accredited US medical schools will be considered if they complete the following:

  1. Provide documentation of 120 hours of osteopathic training and/or documented clinical experience in osteopathic training at the time of application submission.
  2. Submit one letter of recommendation from a DO physician demonstrating experience with hands-on treatment experience and understanding of basic OMT techniques.
  3. Commit to taking and passing the CORRE exam administered through the NBOME and provide scores to the program within 20 days of the NRMP rank list deadline.

The 120-hour training requirement can be met through courses offered by an approved organization or AACOM medical school. Courses should include osteopathic philosophy (OPP), anatomy and physiology related to osteopathic medicine, indications/contraindications associated with OMT, and how to complete an osteopathic structural examination. All MD candidates applying to the program will be asked to provide supplemental materials to be considered for the program.

For all candidates (MD and DO), the program requires applicants to be within two years of graduation from medical school. The program only allows for one failure on COMLEX Step I and Step II combined. Meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee an interview with the program due to the limited number of available slots each interview season.

SSM Health Monroe Hospital does not sponsor J1 visas. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.
