What is an ACS-Verified Level II Trauma Center?

The American College of Surgeons (ACS) is a scientific and educational association of surgeons, founded in 1913 to raise the standards of surgical education and practice and to improve the quality of care for the surgical patient.

To be recognized as a Level II Trauma Center, a hospital must be equipped and staffed to provide comprehensive and skilled services to severely injured patients. Staff members – including physicians, residents, nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers and radiology technicians – are specifically trained to handle complex and life-threatening injuries. Additionally, trauma surgeons must be in the hospital 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
