SSM Health DePaul Hospital is a 476 bed, full service Catholic hospital that opened in 1828, as the first hospital west of the Mississippi River. Today they treat patients from across the St. Louis metropolitan area, including the communities of Bridgeton, Florissant, Hazelwood, St. Ann, St. John, Maryland Heights, Overland and communities in St. Charles County. SSM DePaul offers a wide range of comprehensive medical care, including the only Level II Trauma Center in North St. Louis County, a Level I Time Critical Diagnosis STEMI Center and a Comprehensive Stroke Center.
SSM Health DePaul Hospital campus includes a comprehensive array of both inpatient and outpatient services to support the emotional and mental well-being of patients and their families. The campus has 124 inpatient behavioral health beds, the largest in the state of Missouri, providing care for both adults and adolescents. Outpatient services include a Long Acting Injection Clinic and a Behavioral Health Urgent Care. Our certified psychiatrists treat mental health disorders, including depression, anxiety and panic disorder, schizophrenia, dementia, bipolar disorder and substance abuse disorders.
Residency Overview
SSM Health DePaul Hospital’s Psychiatric PGY2 Pharmacy Residency program was established in 2023. The goal of this program is to develop the skills, knowledge and philosophical practices expected of a psychiatric pharmacist and prepare the resident for a psychiatric pharmacy specialist position. Residents who take part in the program develop expertise in psychiatric medication management and elevate the level of care for patients seeking mental health treatment.
The program is unique in that it provides training at multiple sites across the Saint Louis region, providing a diverse experience. Residents of our program will rotate through learning experiences at; SSM Health DePaul Hospital - St. Louis, SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital - St. Louis, SSM Health St. Joseph's Hospital - Wentzville, SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital, and SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Pediatric Hospital, and Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. Residents participate in multi-disciplinary rounds, public health outreach projects, professional development programs, and multidisciplinary presentations.
SSM Health has education affiliations with University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy and Southern Illinois University School of Pharmacy. Residents in this program will participate in a seminar series, a resident research conference, and have the option to participate in a teaching certificate program. The resident will complete a year long research or process improvement project and also be involved with precepting Advanced Practice Pharmacy Experience (APPE) students from the local colleges of pharmacy.
