Pediatric Allergy & Immunology

We understand seeking a diagnosis for an allergy or immune deficiency in a child can be overwhelming. Our dedicated SLUCare Physician Group allergy and immunology doctors are well versed in working with families of children with asthma, increased sensitivity to certain allergens and/or a decreased ability to fight off infectious diseases.

SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital is the only Pediatric Referral Program for Immune Deficiencies in Missouri. Our allergy and immunology team commonly see and treat a variety of diagnoses, including:

  • Adverse reaction to vaccines
  • Allergic rhinitis
  • Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis
  • Allergic conjunctivitis

Asthma Symptoms in Children

If you think your child may be suffering from asthma, please schedule an appointment with one of our specialists. Look for these symptoms:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Coughing
  • Wheezing
  • Tightening of chest

Allergy & Immunology Testing

If your child shows symptoms of allergies the following tests may be used to determine the source of discomfort:

  • Allergy Skin Test: painless (no needles) method of allergy testing
    • Results: available within 20 minutes
  • Pulmonary Function Test: breathing test to assess lung function
    • Results: available same day
  • Patch Allergy Skin Test: specialized testing for food allergies
    • Results: approximately four days after test is completed
  • Immune System Evaluation: series of blood tests
    • Results: approximately two to three weeks after test is completed
  • Radiologic Testing: exam of the sinuses and lungs
    • Results: up to one week after test is completed
