Veterans Care

We Honor Veterans

We honor veterans logoWe Honor Veterans is a pioneering campaign developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs. The program assists health care providers throughout the country learn how to better care for patients with military service by recognizing the challenges they may be facing.

That means our hospice staff undergoes specialized training to understand the needs of people with a history of military service, including those with post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression and substance abuse. The training includes an understanding of the differences of each war and the unique experiences and complications to the veterans who served in them. For veterans who experienced combat service or other trauma, this knowledge and sensitivity can be particularly important as experience from the past may resurface during a serious illness.

Every veteran has a unique life story and a unique set of needs. Through compassionate listening, grateful acknowledgement and respectful inquiry, we aim to guide veterans and their families towards better health outcomes and a more peaceful end-of-life journey.
