Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

If your child is born with any complication, you may feel nervous and unsure about your baby’s future and how you will be able to help them grow. At SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, we give you peace of mind.

Through acute and compassionate care, we help mothers and their newborns overcome the odds. This has allowed thousands of patients to get the best start in life and has made SSM Health Cardinal Glennon the region’s first choice for the care of our most precious patients.

No matter the situation, our goal is to provide you the highest level of care, all in a comfortable environment. SSM Health offers a Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the highest standard of care for newborns. Inside this NICU, our highly-specialized team provides care, 24/7, including:

  • Surgical repair of complex conditions
  • The most advanced technology available
  • A full range of pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties
  • Pediatric anesthesiologists on site
  • Patient transport by ambulance, helicopter or fixed-wing aircraft

The infants that receive care in the Dana Brown Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) are living proof of the consistently high level of care our team delivers. With new technology, 23-week old gestation babies, born at six months, are able to survive conditions and grow into healthy kids. NICU Amenities

Miracles happen every day at the Dana Brown Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Whether our expert team is performing a complex surgery or providing babies loving care and support, we save lives. Our all-private NICU also offers outstanding amenities:

  • 65 beds and plenty of room for parents
  • Special rooms for twin babies
  • Parent lounge with showers, Wi-Fi access and refrigerators
  • NicView™ capabilities

NicView™

NicView™ is an innovative, tiny camera system, placed at designated bed spaces throughout our NICU. It allows our parents, family and friends to view their infant in real-time, 24/7, through a secure online portal. We use this to help our families develop a deeper bond with their preemie or hospitalized infant even when they can’t be in the NICU with them. NicView™ provides peace of mind and reassurance when you can’t be at your child’s bedside.

A Partner in Your Baby’s Life

For mothers with a high-risk pregnancy, we offer prenatal consultations to advise you on all aspects of specialized neonatal care. You are an important part of the care that your baby receives. We partner with you to help you make informed decisions and understand your baby’s unique needs.

Visiting Policy

For our patients’ safety, we will ask for you and the patient’s name every time you visit the NICU. We’ll then buzz you into the door and ask you to wash your hands before entering the baby's room.

If you have a cold or flu, fever, pink eye, or a recent exposure to chickenpox, measles or mumps, we ask that you do NOT VISIT to help protect our NICU babies. For more information on our visiting policy, or any other questions, please contact our NICU welcome desk at 314-577-5631 or 800-488-9994.

Should any complex medical condition arise with you and your newborn, we are ready to provide the best care possible. Our NICU is fully-equipped with the expert doctors and support staff you need to give your baby the strongest start in life.
