Dr. Jayanthi Suppiah joins SSM Health in Illinois as Chief Medical Officer and Medical Group President.

Dr. Suppiah comes back to Southern Illinois after several years away.

SSM Health in Illinois is excited to announce the addition of Dr. Jayanthi Suppiah to their executive leadership team. Dr. Suppiah has accepted the role of Regional Chief Medical Officer and Medical Group President for the Southern Illinois Region.

In this role, Dr. Suppiah will be responsible for the overall direction and management of medical affairs for SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon and SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. She will provide regional oversight for patient safety, clinical quality, regulatory and patient experience programs, and clinical initiatives in the region. She will also be responsible for Medical Staff Office functions and physician engagement.

Additionally, Dr. Suppiah will provide clinical expertise to enhance Medical Group operations and to improve overall health care delivery and population management for the region. She will oversee all Medical Group physicians and will work closely with Jayceen Ensrude, Vice President Operations – Medical Group, and Jenny Sims, Administrator - Medical Group.

Dr. Suppiah has been in clinical practice since 2006 and brings seventeen years of experience, managing complex patient populations. She comes to SSM Health from Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona, where she served as Medical Director and Clinical Endocrinologist/Internal Medicine Physician.

She earned her Medical Degree from Spartan Health Sciences University in St. Lucia, West Indies. Dr. Suppiah completed her residency in Internal Medicine at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, MO, and a fellowship in Endocrinology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, IL. She also received her MA in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Madison, WI.

Dr. Suppiah, originally from Salem, Illinois, has relocated with her family to Southern Illinois and began her journey with SSM Health on October 30, 2023.
