Hebenstreit’s colleagues shared instances that exemplified his passion for nursing and eagerness to go above and beyond for patients:
“I would like to recognize Nathan for his leadership in the Emergency Department (ED) while helping to stabilize multiple critical patients at one time. Despite dealing with back issues of his own, Nathan acted with urgency. He ran from the ED to surrounding departments and the hospital's blood bank. Nathan was able to maintain his composure and respond with urgency to this critical situation all while providing emotional support to the patients and leading the ED staff to ensure patient care.”
Hebenstreit was also honored in another instance, for his knowledge, leadership skills, and compassionate care. During an organ donation procedure, a team member shared, "...this nurse began praying out loud in the operating room (OR). I can tell you that it impacted everyone on my team and provided peace for the patient as well. Nathan provided guidance and healing to everyone in that room by openly inviting the presence of Jesus Christ into the OR and into the hearts of everyone present."
“I am deeply honored that my colleagues nominated me for the DAISY Award. I can truly say that seeing my fellow nurses and support staff in action every day keeps me inspired! I have been very blessed over the years to have had numerous leaders and coworkers' mentor and pour into me.” says Hebenstreit. “That is what has helped make me the person I am today. I consider it a privilege to work with so many talented, dedicated, and caring people that make the mission possible.”
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33; the care Patrick received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families. DAISY stands for diseases attacking the immune system. Learn more about the DAISY Award.
