SSM Health’s new general surgeon brings advanced endoscopic imaging procedure to Good Samaritan Hospital

Patients no longer have to travel far to access advanced digestive health care.

Mt. Vernon, IL – SSM Health Medical Group in Illinois welcomes general surgeon, Anupam Gupta, MD who specializes in treating digestive concerns and diseases. Dr. Gupta is trained in the latest best practices and uses current endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) technology to diagnose and treat gastrointestinal (GI) diseases and disorders. With the expansion of SSM Health’s general surgery services, patients can access advanced digestive health imaging and care closer to home.

Anupam Gupta, MD received his bachelor’s degree in medicine, a Master of Surgery, and completed a general surgery residency in Bangalore, India. He then came to the United States where he completed general surgery residencies at both the University of Chicago in Chicago, IL, and the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL. Between his residencies, Dr. Gupta did a burn and critical care fellowship at John H. Stroger Junior Hospital of Cook County in Chicago, IL. Dr. Gupta completed an endoscopic ultrasound tutorial at the University of Montreal in Montreal, Canada followed by a minimally invasive and surgical endoscopy fellowship at the University of Miami in Miami, FL.

Dr. Gupta is board-certified in general surgery with fellowship training in minimally invasive surgery, and advanced endoscopic surgery. He treats patients 18 years or older for a wide variety of conditions utilizing minimally invasive techniques and endoscopy to minimize post procedure pain for a quicker recovery time.

Dr. Gupta is a highly skilled surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive and robotic surgeries that treat diseases in and around the digestive tract. He can perform routine and advanced endoscopic procedures ranging from upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, colonoscopies, biopsies, hernia repair, esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), and EUS.
