MT. VERNON, IL – Kayce Cameron Johnston is this year’s first baby born at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital – Mt. Vernon. He arrived in the hospital’s Labor and Delivery Unit on January 1, 2025, to first time parents Alexis Davis and Cameron Johnston and excited grandparents Tammy and Sam Johnston.

“Everything went fine and great … and I was really, really happy,” said Alexis Davis, mother of New Year newborn. “It went extremely quick,” said Cameron, father of Kayce."It was all and all, as smooth as a birth can be. We had a crying moment of happiness to have him.”

This healthy baby boy was born at 7:06 a.m. on New Year’s Day, weighing 7 pounds and 11 ounces and measuring 20 1/4 inches.

“Every year we are excited to welcome the New Year’s baby. It is a joyous occasion for all- symbolizing the start of new life, hope, and happiness. Babies are such a wonderful way of starting a new season in our life,” said Tammy Parish, Director of SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital Labor and Delivery Unit.
