SSM Health and the SSM Health Treffert Center, Kalahari Resorts & Conventions in Wisconsin Dells, are proud to announce the opening of a dedicated Calming Room at the resort. The room will provide a safe, quiet, dedicated space for guests with sensory sensitivities who need a place to decompress.

Located on the second floor in the main lobby, the Calming Room offers a serene sanctuary designed to provide relief and comfort for individuals who may experience sensory challenges. Whether it be individuals with sensory processing disorders or anyone seeking a quiet space to decompress, the Calming Room provides a supportive environment.

“Sensory processing differences are a natural part of human diversity, experienced by millions of people, including those with autism, ADHD, PTSD, and other conditions,” explained Meg Puddy, SSM Health Treffert Center Director of Behavioral Health Services. “Every detail, from the design to the artwork, has been thoughtfully crafted in collaboration with the Treffert team to foster a supportive environment where guests can pause, regulate, and engage with their Kalahari experience in a way that works best for them.”

The new Calming Room at Kalahari offers sensory-friendly activities, books, fidget toys and noise-canceling headphones. Also equipped with comfortable seating and calming visuals, the room aims to create a soothing atmosphere conducive to relaxation.

“We are extremely proud to partner with SSM Health and the Treffert Center, which is internationally recognized for its expertise in autism and sensory-friendly spaces,” said John Chastan, General Manager of Kalahari Resorts & Conventions in Wisconsin Dells. "This partnership has allowed us to create a state-of-the-art Calming Room here at Kalahari, leveraging the groundbreaking Treffert Approach. It’s more than just a quiet space—it’s a carefully considered environment where families can find peace and relaxation when they need it most.”

The Calming Room is part of a collaboration between Kalahari Resorts and SSM Health that offers health and safety benefits and education to resort guests. The Calming Room will also serve as a nursing room for mothers, ensuring families can fully enjoy their getaway with convenience and privacy.

“Partnerships like this allow us to meet community members and area visitors where they are in meaningful and valuable ways,” notes Sue Anderson, SSM Health Regional President. “We are proud to partner with Kalahari and believe that the health and safety education, as well as the Calming Room, will provide resort guests with education and resources they need to enjoy their time in Wisconsin Dells safely and in good health.”

This is the third Calming Room at a Kalahari Resorts. Kalahari also offers a Calming Room at the Ohio and Texas properties.
