Mt. Vernon, IL – Student Nursing Externships and Graduate Nurse Residency Programs are offered at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital – Mt. Vernon and SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital – Centralia.

The Student Nurse Externship Program offered at SSM Health allows student nurses to gain hands-on clinical training while earning an hourly wage. This program is designed to provide practical experience in a clinical setting.

The Graduate Nurse Residency program offered by this regional health care ministry helps new nurse graduates grow into confident and skilled professionals through a 12-month educational pathway. This program offers a sign-on bonus, competitive wages, and a benefits package.

“Our region here in Southern Illinois is rich with opportunity, especially within the health care industry. We have some of the best medical professionals and nurses right here in Centralia and Mt. Vernon. We are excited to leverage the talent and expertise of our team to train the next generation of nurses,” says Danielle Thompson, RN, Administrative Director of Nursing Operations at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital.

Being a nurse is more than a job or a career, it’s a calling. SSM Health nurses are part of a sacred trust to carry on the ministry our founding sisters set forth more than 150 years ago. The SSM Health mission and values are the foundation of all they do and a key component of the health care ministry’s Nursing Professional Practice Model.
