SSM Health’s new, state-of-the-art outpatient center will open for patient care on Monday, September 22, 2025. The 90,000 square foot facility offers improved access to outpatient orthopedic surgical and comprehensive eye care services.

The additional surgical space included in the facility will help SSM Health continue to meet the growing demands for outpatient surgical services. By opening additional outpatient surgical access, SSM Health can provide more timely care when and where patients need it. Located along the Highway 151 corridor, patients from surrounding counties will experience easy access to services.

Patients will experience a streamlined check-in and rooming process at the new facility. When arriving for an appointment, patients can check-in using a self-check kiosk. Eye care patients will also receive individual self-rooming instructions which eliminate the need to sit in a waiting area prior to the patient’s scheduled appointment time. Our eye care services were thoughtfully designed using specialized colors, themed graphics and large room number signs to help patients locate their assigned exam and testing rooms.

Through dedicated, direct work with surgical care teams, the new facility is designed to also streamline surgical care. Patients at the Sun Prairie center will receive pre-surgical and post-surgical care in the same room, just steps away from new, state-of-the-art surgical suites. Not only does this efficient design eliminate unnecessary patient transport, it also provides support people with a single, comfortable space to wait during their loved one’s procedure.

Efficient and sustainable design elements aren’t limited to inside the building. SSM Health has long been dedicated to building healthy buildings while also caring for the environment around us. The Sun Prairie Outpatient Center boasts many sustainable design elements, including one of the region’s largest solar carport structures. Featuring more than 1,900 solar panels, the structure is designed to offset approximately 50% of the facility’s electricity needs, while also providing shelter to the facility’s parking area. Electric car and bike charging stations are available to patients, support people and staff in the parking areas.

Around the grounds, SSM Health took care in the facility’s landscape design by ensuring native plants were included to provide a pollinator pathway for native insects, butterflies and birds. In partnership with the project’s general contractor, J.H. Findorff, and architect Kahler Slater, SSM Health worked to preserve several old growth trees on the site. Some of the trees that needed to be removed in the construction of the facility were turned into various features inside the building, including a lobby bench made from wood and veneer reclaimed from a walnut tree. A half-mile walking path offers patient support people and employees an easily accessible option for exercise and enjoyment of the campus’ natural environment.

SSM Health team members and providers are excited to welcome patients to the new outpatient center starting Monday, September 22, 2025.
