When canoeing and other events come to Oklahoma City for the 2028 Summer Olympics, SSM Health will be trained and ready.

The SSM Health Bone & Joint medical team supported athletes competing at the 2026 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships in Oklahoma City. This international event featured more than 300 athletes from 50 nations in the six-day event. For many of these athletes, this was their first opportunity to experience the Riversport complex, which will host the 2028 Olympic Canoe Slalom events in Oklahoma City.

Earlier this year, Riversport announced a four-year partnership with SSM Health Oklahoma, naming our health ministry as its official Primary Medical Partner.

The SSM health sports medicine coordinated with the fire department’s swift water rescue teams and also deployed its athletic trainers for pre-race preparation, including stretching and taping, according to Cody Legg, manager of the Sports Medicine Program for SSM Health Bone & Joint . The physical therapy groups also handled recovery work for the athletes.

“We’ve gotten to help coordinate all of it and make sure the athletes are well taken care of,” Legg said.
