Doug Ehrhard isn’t shy about showing how proud he is to receive health care from SSM Health DePaul Hospital – St. Louis. He has been a regular patient at the health ministry for over two decades and strongly recommends its physicians to people who need quality care. But Doug’s most recent health care needs from SSM Health DePaul Hospital – St. Louis has made his endorsement of the ministry’s services particularly special. Since Doug does not live in Missouri, his championing of the care he receives brings a unique viewpoint to the health ministry’s services.
“I live in Indiana,“ says Doug. “And I happily drive to St. Louis for my doctor’s visits. I pass a lot of hospitals on my trips to DePaul and don’t miss them as I go by. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.”
A retired airline pilot who has spent the last 15 years teaching others how to fly, Doug has traveled throughout The United States, Mexico, Canada, South America, and Costa Rica. During his travels, Doug experienced wear and tear on his knees. And it wasn’t until January 2024 that Doug had knee replacement surgery from SSM Health DePaul Hospital – St. Louis’ orthopedic surgeon, Dr. William Schroer.
“I didn’t get a break as a pilot,” says Doug. “But at 76 years old, I thought it was time to get my leg taken care of. Dr. Schroer was very busy when I first decided to get my knee surgery, but I’m glad I waited because he did a really, really good job.”
Doug says SSM Health’s care was “remarkable.” His story, like many patients, is a testament to the exceptional health care services that the health system daily provides to those in its care.

Doug Ehrhard is the brother of Patrice Komoroski, former president of SSM Health DePaul Hospital – St. Louis. Patricia Komoroski left SSM Health in 2012. If it wasn’t for Patrice, Doug may have been at a different hospital system.
