Year of Hope: I have hope for unity

by SSM Health

Hope unites us and can be the catalyst for powerful, positive change – both personal and communal. Building on the momentum of our Year of Kindness, SSM Health introduced the Year of Hope to inspire team members, providers, and those around us to spread good news throughout our health ministry and communities. To face our challenges with faith and optimism, the Year of Hope offers us moments to pause, reflect, and connect with our purpose while looking forward to the future with expectation.

As we continue our yearlong journey, we turn our focus to hope for unity.

“Individually we are one drop. Together we are an ocean.” – Ryunosuke Satoro

With our world more divided and unpredictable than ever, unity is no longer optional, it’s essential. In health care, unity can mean the difference between a patient’s despair and recovery, between being overlooked and being seen.

At the heart of unity lies a profound truth: we are all made in the image and likeness of God. This belief affirms the inherent worth of every person, regardless of race, income, geography, or background. It calls us to see one another not as strangers or statistics, but as reflections of the divine — each deserving of care, respect, and opportunity. When we come together — health professionals, communities, and individuals — we become an ocean of possibility. We can build a healthy culture of belonging, invest in our communities, and work to ensure that no one is left behind. We must provide care that respects cultural differences, increase access to mental health services, and stand behind the caregivers who deliver hope every day.

Unity in health care is not about uniformity — it is about solidarity. It is about recognizing that our well-being is bound together, and that healing one life uplifts us all. When we act with empathy and purpose, we honor the divine image in each other and move closer to a world where health is not a privilege, but a shared promise.

Let’s take a few moments to pause in prayer, self-reflect, and take action. Our journey of hope continues:

I have hope for unity

Reflection

Lord,

In a world filled with diverse nations, we humbly come before you, seeking your divine guidance. Help us transcend our differences, grant us the wisdom to find common ground, and instill in us the desire to work together harmoniously.

May our unity and cooperation among nations lead to lasting peace, prosperity, and mutual understanding. We pray for a world where borders are bridges, and nations stand together in solidarity.

Amen.
