Healing Hunger: How SSM Health ministries in St. Louis deliver on our Mission

by SSM Health

As part of SSM Health St. Louis Region’s Bread Basket program, the region’s hospitals are holding 18 community food distribution events in 2023. These events are held in partnership with the St. Louis Area Food Bank and open to anyone in the community.

To date, there have been nine events held with seven ministries. We have served 1,295 households with 4,647 individuals of which 1,912 are children under the age of 18. We look forward to continuing these events and our partnership with the St. Louis Area Foodbank throughout the region during the remainder of 2023.

SSM Health is committed to community health improvement efforts. In St. Louis, teams often provide food security resources. Earlier this year, in February, SSM Health DePaul Hospital and SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital – St. Charles partnered with St. Louis Area Food Bank in delivering food to more than 1,500 people in partnership with the St. Louis area Food Bank.

“We know that access to healthy foods is a social determinate of health, and it is our responsibility to ensure we do what we can to help garner access to food for those in need,” said Jake Brooks, President of SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital – St. Charles.
